- Oil painting on canvas – Saint James of the Marches
- Description
Oil painting on canvas showing Saint James of the Marches, an important figure of the Franciscan tradition. - Born at Monteprandone in 1394, he studied law at Perugia before entering the Order of Friars Minor. Once ordained, he gave his life to preaching the Gospel. He died in Naples in 1476.
- In the traditional iconography the saint is often shown in the Franciscan habit with a chalice from which a serpent emerges: the symbol of a legendary episode in which attempts to poison him had no effect.
