An important furnishing piece, able to evoke medieval and romantic atmospheres.

Features

  • The enamel technique gives brilliance and depth to the colours, making the piece a furnishing element of great aesthetic impact. Made in the early years of the twentieth century in the neo-medieval style.
  • Measurements: L 60 cm × H 38 cm × P 5 cm
  • Very old original print with gilded frame genuine period print titled “Ruins of St Andrews Castle in Scotland”.
  • Wide painting of a Veneto landscape, marked by a lyrical composition and a refined handling of light. Refined terracotta vase made and painted entirely by hand, a genuine piece from the old ceramic workshops of southern Italy.
  • The surface is decorated with floral motifs and sinuous leaves, composed with balance and elegance. The lines and the shading recall the traditional Sicilian and Mediterranean style. St Andrews Castle was built between the 12th and 13th centuries; the imposing Fore Tower, now in ruins, is one of the oldest parts of the castle. The entrance was once protected by a portcullis and a double-leaf gate, with a “gaff” hook used to raise and lower the drawbridge. The present entrance dates from the time of Archbishop Hamilton. Above the doorway there is a framed panel that once held a Hamilton coat of arms and the date 1555 carved in the stone.

a very old original print with gilded frame showing the castle while the Bishop's private apartment still stood, and therefore as it must have looked in the second half of the 16th century. The dress of the figures matches the clothing worn between the 16th and 17th centuries, so the print can reasonably be dated to that period. The glass is set in a double frame carved à jour.
