Splendid Victorian-style lamp, made in opaline glass and hand-decorated with painted motifs.

Inspired by the romantic, ornamental taste of the English Victorian age, it is a refined example of decorative ware between usefulness and theatrical charm.

The body is made up of a satin opaline glass base, of rounded, harmonious shape, and a decorated central section. The upper part keeps its original pierced brass burner, with adjustment for the wick.

Opaline glass, much prized in the nineteenth century, is known for its milky surface and for the way it takes enamel decoration and gilding.
